eGorman: The filthy traitor

I had two games tonight, against a new player at the club. We were doing eighteen point games, so I could learn about managing Fury, and he could get some games under his belt.

Lord Exhumator Scaverous
- Ripjaw
Rorsh & Brine
Wrong Eye & Snapjaw

Vs.

Iron Lich Asphyxious
- Deathripper
- Deathripper
- Leviathan
Skarlock
Pistol Wraith
Gorman

His army is part of a Journeyman league type project, or he probably wouldn't have brought the Leviathan, but I still thought I was the one in trouble.

The first game saw him overextend his two Deathrippers, and Brine/Snapjaw with Ghost Walk and TK took one down each. I probably would have lost after the Leviathan took down Brine in return, but Gorman got to close to Snapjaw and got himself engaged instead of locking it down with Black Oil. This allowed a Feat + Icy Grip + TK + Snapjaw in the back, and... chomp. We had a good talk about engaging models and activation sequences (the Pistol Wraith could have locked down Snapjaw as well, if he had gone before Gorman)

The second game featured a change in strategy, and the armies danced around each other. I wasn't really sure how to crack the line, but before any real harm was done, Gorman intervened again and placed himself near pGaspy. While I couldn't get to pGaspy, I could get to Gorman with the extra inches of range on Snapjaw, and THEN I could get to pGaspy with the tail.

I'm not sure I learned a lot, but I did get a bit more comfortable with managing two lesser warlocks and a warcaster at once. It's a lot of Focus/Fury being leeched and allocated each round, but I think I've got it covered for the first round, and TK/Ghost Walk really helps to keep the locks in range of their pets.

I was really lucky with the critical knockdowns as well, but I have to admit that having two heavies with the ability makes for some interesting plays. With boosted charge attacks I get the benefit of hitting on average dice against most casters, with boosted damage, and increasing the chances of a knockdown at the same time.

Stay your Wrath: Wrong Eye & Snapjaw

Even though the name makes little sense, I've decided to keep it. This way the idea can be traced back to it's origins, and credit can be given where it's due.

This lesser Warlock will be my first project, since I love the idea, models, and theme, but never got it to work. The concept dictates, that I should field them with a caster that has almost no way of supporting them at first, so that will probably be Terminus or Venethrax (since I've never used him before).

I also want to keep Rorsh & Brine in the list, which should also help me understand the details of the Fury mechanics faster, and it prepares me for the inevitable five warlock list sometime in the future.

Stay your Wrath: Flattery

A few days ago, I decided on piling together the models I never use, and bring that as an army. A couple of hours later, a better idea was waiting in a PM: Stay your Wrath.

I was bored with my go-to models, so I picked up a model I didn’t particularly find useful and put her on the table. I vowed that I would keep playing Anastasia di Bray until she did something useful. I examined her and sought others’ opinions, and drafted up a list of her potential uses and notable drawbacks and weaknesses; I then drew up a list of ways she could be used to accomplish her goals without succumbing to her flaws.
She was pretty useless in game after game, but eventually she clicked. After eight games, she finally got her Espionage thing off, which gave me a neat little vector on a caster kill. Using what I learned in that game, I kept putting her in my armies for a few weeks, and found that I was now able to make her work for me on a regular enough basis to make her a worthwhile inclusion. Satisfied, I put her back in my foam and moved onto the Thunderhead.

Imitation being the greatest form of flattery, I think I'll try this instead. I've been meaning to put Mortenebra on the table again, and that Desecrator looks ripe for a proxy run.
