ETC 2012: Terminus trial

Removing both Erebus and Malice from my Terminus build, gave me three points to play around with, and I can't figure out what to do with them. I could include Gorman and call it a day, but since we seem to be leaning towards four Warmachine lists, I should probably avoid mercenaries that everyone else would like as well.

Another Warwitch Siren could be nice, but I thought a bit about the two games I've lost with Terminus, and they've both been on scenario. I've got the whole "not dying" part covered, and the "killing his caster" is well in hand, but scenarios isn't, so what could I include for three points that would help with scenarios: Machine Wraiths.

I've been looking for an excuse to use them, the list already has both Darragh Wrathe and Madelyn to assist with threat range, and they're great at contesting objectives while the remaining army goes on offense. They're fast enough to grab isolated points, and they can pass straight through defending units. With both Intrigue and Death Ride, they can... erhm... Jackjack... from twelve inches away. Three Machine Wraiths coming up.

  1. First off, I love your blog. I am just getting my feet wet with warmachine. I purchased the two player battle box for my two roommates and have been trying to put together a list of what to buy to start my cryx army. Originally, I was leaning towards the pDenny battle box and finding suitable upgrades to hit 25 pts. However, after reading your spotlight, I feel like she may not be the best choice for keeping my roommates interested in the game. So I began looking at other casters and am contemplating mort. I like the thought of running his tier 4 at 25 pts using harrower, 3x slayers, and 2x sirens. I also took note of your recommendation towards the non tier variant using bonejacks. I just dont know if this list would work as well at 25. I imagine we will stick to the 25 pt level for a while to learn the game before expanding. What are your thoughts on a caster and an army that comes in at under $200, will help me to learn the game, and will not make my roommates hate me?

  2. I think I might write something about it soon, but my usual recommendation is Iron Lich Asphyxious.

pAsphyxious has a lot of weak spots (which is a good thing when learning), makes a lot of intuitive sense, and teaches you the importance of keeping your caster safe.

Then I usually recommend a list with models that might not make up a great army, but which will end up in a lot of lists later, to cut back on unnecessary spending.

It does mean that you will probably lose a lot in the beginning, since a lot of our best models require a lot of skill and finesse.

    Iron Lich Asphyxious
    - Deathripper
    - Deathripper
Satyxis Raiders (Leader and 9 Grunts)
    - Satyxis Raider Sea Witch
    The Withershadow Combine
    Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist
    Satyxis Raider Captain
    Warwitch Siren
    Warwitch Siren

That should come in at about $130-$140, and none of the models should ever be left on the shelf for long.

I'll consider making an "introduction to Cryx" article, since the one Handcannon Online made recently is pretty poor, and I can't recommend it.
