My spine, who took it!?

Every time I design tournament lists, I end up wishing for a ranged list, and every time I design one, I end up wishing I had pDenny running it. Just this morning I thought about running this list:

Warwitch Deneghra
- Nightwretch
- Nightwretch
Skarlock Thrall
Croe's Cutthroats (Croe and 9 Grunts)
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts)
Satyxis Raiders (Leader and 9 Grunts)
- Sea Witch
The Withershadow Combine
Gorman di Wulfe
Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile
Satyxis Raider Captain
Warwitch Siren
Warwitch Siren

It's disgusting, includes just about every model I really like, but it's run by a caster I stupidly swore never to play again (outside tournaments). The thing is, that the last few games at my club, have been exceedingly hard (much harder than my last couple of tournament games), so maybe I could go back to pDenny, but I fear I'm just making up excuses to get a fix :(

Edit: I've been asked to explain why it's disgusting. While every list can be beaten, this list has so many tools to work with, and so many ways of locking down an opponent, that you need something special to survive.
  • More than thirty ranged attacks in a round.
  • More than thirty models with some form of additional damage dice.
  • Run by a caster that can debuff an entire army.
  • The list is almost entirely stealth or defense 15+
The list can throw out thirty ranged attacks during the Withering, and then charge in the Satyxis Raiders with Power Swell (targeting the two major threats that received Parasite/Crippling), leaving a completely devastated opponent, unable to effectively retaliate.

  1. I appreciate your sense of sportsmanship in the game. At the same time I see the disgusting and approve.

Denny is the caster I use when I want to play with models that are not really "top tier" or just a rogue's gallery of solos and oddball units. She's also a good caster for beginners specifically because she can overcome obstacles.

I say scratch the itch and play the list a couple times and shelve it again ;)

I'm going out to buy Croe's. Your spotlight on them a while back sold me and I want a really mean Denny list.

  2. I better go challenge that eHaley player, and give him a run for his money this time :D

  3. That sounds like a good approach. If I'm understanding your need correctly - you're trying to find a game that can match your skill level with pDenny. She's top tier, perhaps our best so seek out the other top tier casters and players that can field them. eHaley is a real pain. As an observation I see that your list already diminishes the impact of Domination (no heavy jacks). I hate that spell.

  4. Indeed, and I don't need two actions to open fire, so her feat round will be diminished as well :)

  5. So I guess my question would be how do you alter this list if character restrictions are in and the Withershadow Combine end up with Terminus?

Also, I've played a couple of games using the overseer with the Leviathans. Adding stealth to them has definitely helped their survivability as a group. Most games went one of two ways; Either the hunters+levis ended the game on feat turn or the ILO died shortly thereafter at which point the sirens took over.

  6. I've decided to stop thinking about character restrictions, since it does nothing put annoy me, but it would probably involve removing the WSC and adding Bile Thralls, Blood Witches, or Pistol Wraiths.

  7. Yesterday I got a 25-point game:

    He had:
    Barnabas
    2 Wrastlers
    Bull snapper
    Full Gator Posse

    I had:
    pDenny
    Nightwretch
    Deathripper
    Skarlock
    10 Mechanithralls
    Necrosurgeon
    2 Pistol Wraiths
    1 Siren
    WSC

    In a word?
    Ouch.
I feated bottom of turn 2, binded his Wrastlers, debuffed and pistoled his posse to death (plus 1 WSC), returned 3 thralls and surrounded Barnabas with 5 charging thralls while he had 1 fury to transfer.

It took all of 3 attacks to drop him.

My opponent and the one spectator we had are both very new with maybe 12 games between them. He was a good sport about it and wants to play more.

I completely understand your feelings about pDenny now.

  8. Oh, it was Maelok, not Barnabas. He was 1 point short due to a lack of models, but I doubt it would have helped much.

  9. Barnabas actually has a shot at winning it with his KD feat and possible immunity to ranged attacks, but Maelok is indeed royally screwed :D
