Warwitch Deneghra: Nuclear deterrence

I've received a steady trickle of messages since I posted my Warwitch Deneghra Spotlight, and it seems I've inadvertently supplied several players with the tools they needed to force a Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty.
I gave your 35pt Nyss list a try against a Khador player. It took four rounds of Crippling Grasp and CRA at his jacks to make him rage quit.
This was never my intent, but it's hard not to chuckle when a player takes what I wrote, and shows his meta why they should reconsider certain casters. The one I've enjoyed the most, was the player who lost three games in a row with pDenny, but still made his opponent reconsider his choice of caster, since the games were so dull he'd do anything to avoid a repeat.

It seems Warwitch Deneghra does indeed have a place in the game, and I'm pleased someone found a legitimate use for her, as a nuclear deterrent.

  1. Played some introductory games this weekend to get some new players involved. I leant my pDenny Mangled Metal list to a frequent Cygnar opponent of mine. After he played Denny for a while he admitted both admiration and disgust. Admiration of her power level, disgust because he felt he stole the game from his beginner opponent while "going easy".

Me, I'm a pDenny fan. I like her power level and in my local gaming circle she is matched well against the other power casters from other factions. I like to lend her to new players as she tends to give them better odds against more experienced players.

  2. What's the 35 point Nyss Hunter list? I looked on your Denny article, but I could only find 50 point lists in the comments and article. I'm not sure if I'm looking in the right places?

  3. That's a darn good question, since I can't find one either. I might have sent him one in a PM, but since I had to clean that due to silly space limitations... I'll ask him and post when he answers :D

  4. Heh, fair enough. I ask because I have just started Warmachine, picked up a Cryx Battlegroup yesterday and found your blog via Teh Googles. :) So the pDenny articles were interesting to my relevants. I'm currently trying to balance her on a nice scenic base and looking for a decent head to replace that dire looking helmet with!

  5. I used a Games Workshop Daemonette head (Hord O Bits on eBay will sell you some, if you can't borrow/beg/steal one somewhere else).

He replied with the list, but it's an old one indeed. I'm not sure I would include Bane Thralls now, and I'd lean more towards Satyxis in a 35 point setup.

    Warwitch Deneghra
    - Nightwretch
    - Nightwretch
    Skarlock Thrall
Bane Thralls (Leader and 5 Grunts)
    - Officer & Standard
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts)
    Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile
    Pistol Wraith
    Pistol Wraith
    Warwitch Siren
    Warwitch Siren

  6. If I were to make a 35 point list now, I think I'd end up with something like this instead:

    Warwitch Deneghra
    - Deathripper
    - Deathripper
    Skarlock Thrall
Croe's Cutthroats (Croe and 9 Grunts)
Satyxis Raiders (Leader and 9 Grunts)
    Satyxis Raider Sea Witch
    Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist
    Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile
    Satyxis Raider Captain
    Warwitch Siren
    Warwitch Siren

If I might offer a suggestion though, I'd invest in Iron Lich Asphyxious, and use him with the Battlegroup instead.

He allows for a better learning experience, and opponents will be more likely to enjoy their games against you as well :)

  7. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check out the LGS to see if they have Asphyxious in as I'm going there tomorrow to get paints etc. The Daemonette head idea sounds good! I love her backstory/theme/everything/thighs/ignore that last one but if Asphyxious gives a better learning experience than I'll go for him first. I don't want to try and get people introduced to WM, then have them ragequit in games or otherwise not have fun.

    Cheers.
